Upgrading Oracle® Hyperion Financial Management, Fusion Edition Applications to 11.1.2.1

This tutorial covers upgrading prior versions of Financial Management applications to version 11.1.2.1.

Overview

This tutorial covers upgrading prior versions of Financial Management applications to version 11.1.2.1. After you upgrade EPM System to version 11.1.2.1, you must upgrade your Financial Management applications before you can use them. You upgrade applications by using either EPM System Configurator or Application Upgrade Utility. If you use EPM System Configurator to upgrade your applications, the system runs Application Upgrade Utility in the background.

If the application is a classic application, you can transform it into Performance Management Architect.

Scenario

Your company upgraded EPM System to version 11.1.2.1, and wants to continue to use its existing applications, which were built in version 11.1.1.3. You are to upgrade the applications to the current version. Your company uses Performance Management Architect to manage its applications, so you must transform the applications into Performance Management Architect as well.

Prerequisites

Before starting this tutorial, you should:

Have upgraded your EPM System installation to version 11.1.2.1.

Have backed up your relational database.

Have backed up your Financial Management applications .

Upgrading Applications by Using EPM System Configurator

After you upgrade your EPM System installation to version 11.1.2.1, you upgrade your applications in EPM System Configurator. EPM System Configurator runs Application Upgrade Utility in the background to perform the application upgrade.

Select Start , then Programs , then Oracle EPM System , then Foundation Services , and then EPM System Configurator .

EPM System Configurator is displayed.

Select Modify an existing EPM Oracle instance , verify the home directory, and click Next .

Perform the following actions:

  1. Click Uncheck All to clear the existing selections.
  2. Expand Financial Management .
  3. Select Upgrade Applications from Earlier Releases and Configure Database .
  4. Click Next .

When you select "Upgrade Applications from Earlier Releases," you must also select "Configure Database" to upgrade your existing Financial Management database.

On the database configuration panel, perform the following actions:

  1. Select Upgrade existing database to the current release from .
  2. In the version dropdown list, select the version from which you are upgrading. In this tutorial, you upgrade from version 11.1.1.3.
  3. Enter the database configuration information:
  4. Click Next .

On the confirmation panel, review the tasks to be performed, and click Next .

EPM System Configurator upgrades the Financial Management database and applications.

Verify that the configuration tasks were completed successfully, and click Finish .

Upgrading Applications by Using Application Upgrade Utility

EPM System Configurator upgrades applications by running Application Upgrade Utility in the background. However, you can also upgrade your applications by using Application Upgrade Utility directly.

For example, you can install EPM System 11.1.2.1 on a new server and copy your existing applications to the new server by using Copy Application Utility. Then, you use Application Upgrade Utility to upgrade the applications to version 11.1.2.1.

Navigate to EPM_ORACLE_HOME\products\FinancialManagement\Server (where EPM_ORACLE_HOME is the directory where EPM System products are installed), and double-click HFM Application Upgrade_x64.exe .

Application Upgrade Utility is displayed.

A list of applications that are available to be upgraded is displayed.

Under Error Handling , select an option:

Under Logging Options, perform the following actions:

  1. Select an option:
  2. In the Log File Name box, enter an upgrade error log name in a directory of your choosing.

Review the system warning that all applications will be converted, and click Yes to continue.

When the upgrade processing is completed, click OK .

Optional: To view the upgrade log after upgrading, click View Log .

The upgrade log is displayed in a text editor.

Review the log entries, and close the text editor.

Click Close to exit Application Upgrade Utility.

Transforming Applications into Performance Management Architect

To use Performance Management Architect for application administration, you can transform applications being managed with Financial Management Classic Administration.

Note: If you are not using Performance Management Architect, you work with applications by using Classic Application Administration. If you upgrade an application that was created in Classic Application Administration to Performance Management Architect, you can no longer work with that application in Classic Application Administration.

Log on to Workspace as a Financial Management administrator.

Select Navigate , then Administer , and then Transform Classic to EPM Architect .

Transform Classic to EPM Architect Wizard is displayed.

Review the Welcome page, and click Next .

Review the Application Summary information and click Next.

The Application Summary page displays the applications that the user can upgrade. (This information is provided from the Shared Services server. If an application cannot be upgraded, an explanation is provided.) Financial Management, Essbase, and Planning applications are all displayed, and icons differentiate each type.

On the Application Selection page, select the applications that you want to upgrade, click the right arrow to add them to the Application to Transform list, and click Next.

In this tutorial, you transform the Stat application.

Review the Transformation Summary, and click Finish to execute the upgrade.

Review the Application Upgrade task in Job Console and verify that the Status column shows Completed.

Select Navigate , then Administer , and then Application Library .

Confirm that the upgraded application is displayed in Performance Management Architect.

Select Navigate , then Administer , and then Dimension Library .

Select File , and then Edit Application .

Select Stat , and click OK .

Expand Stat , and confirm that the dimensions for the upgraded application were added to Performance Management Architect.

Select Navigate , then Applications , then Consolidation , and then Stat .

Note: If Stat is not displayed in the list of applications, select Navigate , then Applications , and then Refresh to refresh the list of applications.

Confirm that the application opens in Workspace.

You successfully upgraded a Financial Management application to version 11.1.2.1.
