Art Commission Agreement

An Art Commission Agreement is the document through which a client hires an artist to create a certain artwork for them. This could be a painting, a movie, a sculpture, or any other artwork desired by the client.

These agreements are simple documents between a client and an artist. The client is the party that commissions the artwork; in other words, they are the party that hires the artist. The artist, of course, is the party that creates the art.

Art Commission Agreements are extremely straight-forward. They just need to cover the basics of the deal.

Usually, Art Commission Agreements come about because the client saw the artist's work and wanted something of their own made by the artist. Sometimes, the client is already familiar with the artist beforehand. Sometimes, they see the artist at a show or gallery.

In this Art Commission Agreement, the parties agree to the basic terms. Standard contractual clauses are also included, such as choice of law and venue.

This document should not be used to create an ongoing relationship between the parties, such as, for example, if someone wants to hire an artist to do work for them on a long-term, exclusive basis. There, either an Employment Agreement can be used, or an Independent Contractor Agreement, or perhaps a Graphic Design Agreement or Freelance Agreement, depending on the scope of work needed.
